Sitcoms about the workplace are nothing new. Through the decades, American couch potatoes warmed up to The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977), Taxi (1978-1982), Cheers (1982-1993), NewsRadio (1995-1999), Just Shoot Me! (1997-2003), The Office (2005-2013), 30 Rock (2006-2013), and Party Down (2009-2010; 2023). The same is true across the pond. In addition to Fawlty Towers (1975-1979), Are You Being Served? (1972-1985), The Office (2001-2003), Extras (2005-2007), Dead Boss (2012) and The IT Crowd (2006-2013), English audiences watched the British sitcom White Gold (2017-2019). Set in the mid-1980s, Damon Beesley’s retro romp centers around a bloke named Vincent Swan (Ed Westwick). When he’s not cheating on his wife Sam (Linzey Cocker), he’s working at Cachet Windows. There, Vincent heads up the sales team which includes two junior salesmen: smarmy charmer Brian Fitzpatrick (James Buckley) and ex-musician Martin Lavender (Joe Thomas). The latter is asked to go above and beyond when he must seduce Joanne “Jo” Scott (Rachel Shenton), the head saleswoman at the rival company W-Windows. While Martin tries to steal secrets from the competition, Vincent steals Mr. Man’s heart (and hard-on) when he flashes his flesh in the pilot episode. Yes, we get a great look at Mr. Westwick’s hairy chest when he appears in a pair of skimpy skivvies. While getting ready for work in the morning, the sexy stud does a little dance in his red-hot underpants. Needless to say, he steams up the small screen. In fact, the sight of the White Gold star’s fit frame is positively priceless!
