Robert Duvall in THX 1138 (1971), Kirk Douglas in Saturn 3 (1980), Jack Black in Mars Attacks! (1996), Ethan Hawke in Gattaca (1997), Vincent D’Onofrio in The Cell (2000), Lee Pace in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and Matt Damon in The Martian (2015). Who wouldn’t love a dude who shows off his acting chops (as well as his skin) in a science fiction movie? Don’t bother raising your hand (or another part of your anatomy) to answer since this is a rhetorical question. As such, we’re guessing you’ll get a kick out of Joel Courtney’s revealing role in Assimilate (2019). In his script, director John Murlowski takes inspiration from Jack Finney’s novel “The Body Snatchers” (1954). The PG-13 flick begins when Missouri teens Zach Henderson (Courtney), Randy Foster (Calum Worthy) and Kayla Shepard (Andi Matichak) start to notice strange things going on with the adults in the community. For example, they spot a bug with a human (Jennifer Pierce Mathus) head. If that’s not odd enough, Zach’s dad (Kevin Remington) gets up to walk — even though he’s an amputee! Sure, Deputy Josh Haywood (Cam Gigandet) is on the case but what can he unearth when Pastor Greg (Terry Dale Parks) and the sheriff (Byron Hughes) are acting like zombies? Of course, the most thrilling parts of this thriller occur when Mr. Courtney reveals his body parts. Luckily for us, we can glance at the sexy stud’s chest and bare butt! Suffice it to say, Joel puts the ass in Assimilate!
