Review

There are various ways to experience grief. Writer/director Richard Glatzer urges people to turn their frowns upside down by looking at the comical side of tragedy via his comedy Grief (1993) starring Illeana Douglas and Paul Bartel. By 2017, we were thrilled to see a couple of indie thrillers — Sean Cammack’s Grief as well as Grief directed by Chris Mammarelli and Kevin Renwick (who also wrote the screenplay and plays the lead role). As the title suggests, the film follows a guy grieving. In this case, his name is Kyle Harden (Renwick). He and his wife Sherry (Jackie Moore) are struggling to cope with the loss of their child. But when Kyle decides to kill himself, he ends up slipping into an even stranger struggle with reality. Throughout his journey, we encounter a few hot cops such as Officer Cox (Nelson Cheng), Officer Scott (Ken Gamble) and Officer Strawberry (Nathan Kehn). If they don’t make you want to frisk yourself, Mr. Renwick will when he flashes his flesh on camera. First, he shows off his ass crack as he gets out of the car just 6 minutes into the flick. Then, the nude dude bares his pale back and buns when he runs through a hallway at the 32-minute mark. Keep watching because a few minutes later, he reveals his rump while standing on a balcony. Judging by these skintastic shots, Kevin’s portrayal of Mr. Harden may make you hard. In other words, view this movie with a box of tissues!
