Mario Van Peebles offers up a wonderful performance playing his father, Melvin Van Peebles, in the 2003 biopic Baadasssss!. Centered around the financing and creation of his dad's hit film Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971), which young Mario actually appeared in, we first meet Melvin Van Peebles (Mario Van Peebles) after he's made a name for himself working at France's version Mad Magazine and directing the racial comedy The Watermelon Man (1970). But while Mario directed that Hollywood flick, it was still a very white film. The screenwriter was white, the crew was white, and the money men behind the scenes were all white. Melvin wants to make a movie for black people by black people, which is why he struggles to finance his dream film. Scrambling, he'll end up tricking the Screen Actors Guild into thinking he's filming a porno to keep them off his back, casting himself in the lead role, looking to Bill Cosby (T.K. Carter) for some cash after his production crew get pinched by the cops, and even hooking up with a then unknown band called "Earth, Wind & Fire" to do the soundtrack. The result will be an iconic film that many think kicked off the "blaxploitation" genre and paved the way for all sorts of black-led Indy films of the seventies and eighties. There's plenty of sweet skin in the 1971 flick, which meant there had to be some in the movie about the movie. To that rear end, we're treated to few skin scenes, including one where Mario ends up having a threesome with Rainn Wilson! Dwight on! But that's nothing compared to when Mario gets in a fight with his lady and ends up hopping out of bed, so that we get a long look at his very muscular buns! Mario's buns are the MVP of this one! That ass is not bad. Not bad at all!
