Balko (1995-1996)

Did we ever mention that we love German television? Balko is a long-running detective series that aired on the country’s RTL channel. It’s no secret that pairing a mismatched duo is rich territory for comedic gold, and no two people are as mismatched as detectives Balko and Klaus Krapp. The titular character Balko was originally portrayed by Jochen Horst during the first few seasons, but was then taken over by Bruno Eyron. Balko is a suave looker who always seems to know what to say, and solves murders and crimes with a coolness that the viewer could only hope to possess. Klaus, on the other hand, is an oaf if there ever was one, and provides the perfect yin to Balko’s yang.
