The gritty romantic drama Blackbird (2007) is set in mid-90's Manhattan and follows the soon-to-be-doomed relationship between Baylis (Paul Sparks), a Gulf War veteran and Froggy (Gillian Jacobs), a stripper. Throw in the fact that the lovers are heroin addicts, and one can see the narcotic backbone of their relationship is also the catalyst of their downfall. Froggy's a teen dancer who has a nasty drug addiction. The club's primary rule is to never date a dude you meet there, but she falls head over heels for Baylis, despite him being so much older than her. As is always the case, it's a matter of time before their money isn't enough and the idea of having Froggy sell her body comes up. Since it's the 90's, this, combined with a love of injectable drugs, is essentially a health timebomb. Sometimes the warm fuzziness of love can be stronger than the stupor-like fuzziness of heroin and, at times, Bayliss and Froggy show some hints that their relationship might actually thrive. But the grip of self-destruction proves to be stronger in the end. The heaviness of the flick sure weighs down the flesh. While we don't get any cock-adoodle-doo, we do get a bit of skin. Paul Sparks adds a dash of ass while changing his diaper! Okay, it's a bit of a weird scene but Mr. Man was still feeling some sparks! Also, bringing a little star power to the film, Michael Shannon provides a few looks at his ripped body as he babbles with a traumatized chick. ♫ Rubbing that body in the dead of niiiiggghhhtttt ♫ Sparks and Shannon will make your bird chirp and chatter!
