The neo-noir flick Breathless (1983) is a clumsy remake of Jean-Luc Godard’s French classic A bout de soufflé (1960) starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. The R-rated adaptation is directed by Jim McBride — not to be confused with the same-named founder of the Mr. Skin and Mr. Man websites! In this action thriller, Richard Gere plays Jesse Lujack, a shifty drifter obsessed with Silver Surfer comic books and rockabilly music, who is wanted for the murder of a police officer. While running from the law, the cute cop killer crosses paths with a beautiful college student named Monica (Valérie Kaprisky). The newfound lovers attempt to escape to Mexico, but before they can hit the border, she gets cold feet, leaving Jesse in a jam. As the plot unwinds, twists and turns arise like the members on audience members. This is especially true when Richard shows his long arm of the law as he sings and dances in the shower. Once you get a glance at his wet chest, ass and shaft, you’ll be the one who needs a towel! Later, while he’s humping his honey in bed, the fantastically fit fugitive flashes full frontal along with his hairless hump. Needless to say, Mr. Gere’s gear will leave you breathless in manticipation. The movie also includes the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Mink DeVille, The Pretenders, and X. Too bad the pic wasn’t rated X. Nevertheless, Dick (erh, Richard) exposes enough skin to make this thriller thrilling!
