The weapons and tactics of war might change, but one fact remains the same: man's desire to conquer can only be tamed by withholding coochie. This fact was as true in 411 BCE as it was when Spike Lee explored the same idea inChi-Raq (2015). A modern-day adaptation of the Greek comedy Lysistrata: a work by Aristophanes that has our heroine organizing a sex strike in hopes that the men will put their weapons down and make peace, the film switches settings from the Peloponnesian War to modern day Chicago. When a little girl is killed by a stray bullet, Lysistrata (Teyonah Parris) decides something has to change, so she rallies the women of the South Side and proclaims that no man will get it in until they make peace. No shooting loads until the shooting stops! The two rival gangs: The Spartans led by Demetrius Dupree (Nick Cannon) and The Trojans led by Cyclops (Wesley Snipes), aren't very happy with the "No Peace, No Pussy" plan Lysistrata has come up with, but there's not much they can do about it. Eventually deciding the gangs aren't the real issue, Lysistrata and her dry pussy posse seduce some soldiers and take over an armory, which allows word of their boning boycott to spread across the country! These ladies might just create world peace! Or, maybe, just maybe, they'll create the perfect opportunity for guys like Mr. Man to turn the dudes in the gang into dudes who like wang? If there's one man in America who has never gone through a dry spell, it would have to be the constantly babymaking rapper and comedian Nick Cannon. Nick never lets us see his howitzer, but we do see his ass a few times while he's railing a few ladies before the boycott begins. What a shame those thrusting buns are going to be put on the backside backburner because of gang violence. Dasaun Sanford, on the other hand, shows everything he's got when he's banging a woman against the wall, when her son walks in. That's one awkward episode of Sanford and Son. For a movie about celibacy, there's a whole lot of sex in this Spike Lee Joint. If only more dudes weren't so shy about going full frontal in Chi-Raq.
