Review

Traumatic brain injuries are a hell of a thing, affecting each person who suffers from one in a whole array of ways.  Some people have mood shifts that last a lifetime, some people get paralysis of speech impediments, and some people lose memories, both short and long term.  For Jo Harding (Connie Nielsen), she didn't just lose SOME memories of what happened to her after suffering a violent fall down some stairs, she lost an entire year of memories from her picture perfect life with her husband Rob (Christopher Eccleston).  This series from Channel 4/Viaplay is based on the novel of the same name by Amanda Reynolds and drops us right into the mindset of someone with a head injury so well, it makes you feel like you are piecing things together with Jo Harding along the way.  What seems like the perfect marriage, perfect life, perfect family, perfect friends, it all starts to unravel as she finds clues and bits of memory return that come in waves and flashes of emotional exchanges with those around her.  Her husband doesn't know what happened to her, her best friend seems to be hiding something from her, and someone in her life may be doing everything in their power to make sure she doesn't remember the full truth of that night and how she fell.  As Jo cobbles together the story, we hunts down people who may be able to help her and the sexy Thomas (Nick Blood), might be the sexiest clue of all with his toned torso and skin tight undies when he answers the door.  Can Jo really trust anyone Close to Me or is she better living in the mindset that "ignorance is bliss?"
