Dawn (2015) is an Australian drama about a woman who is on the run from her past, that distinguishes itself within the genre by never quite making it clear exactly what's going on. Dawn (Leeanna Walsman) goes around Australia beating the crap out of people and robbing them of their cash. She's not a ruthless crook, though, she's fleeing her cop husband John (Matt Day) with her young daughter Steph (Onor Nottle). The pair flee to the Mountains and try to stop using credit cards to keep John off their trail. During a break from beating people up, she sticks her kid in the trunk to go have some wildly aggressive sex with a local cop named Nick (Greg Hatton), who likes to record the action. A few more assaults and shoplifting scenes later, and viewers are forced to confront all sorts of uncomfortable questions. How sure are we that Steph's really her child, that John's really the bad guy, and that this movie is the Australian Sleeping with the Enemy (1991) ripoff we all thought it was?
