Disaster Movie (2008)

The much-maligned writing duo of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer kept their spoof streak going with Disaster Movie (2008). The film follows a group of good-looking twentysomethings—Will (Matt Latner), Amy (Vanessa Minnillo), Calvin (G-Thang), and Lisa (Kim Kardashian)— concerned with saving Earth from being destroyed by a plethora of problems, mainly falling meteors and rabid chipmunks, as prophesized by a cavewoman version of Amy Winehouse. Will and Amy (not Winehouse) were a couple, until Amy cheated on him with a Calvin Klein model. But when the crap hits the fan and she gets trapped in a Baltimore museum after a giant earthquake, he decides to rescue her. Along the hilarious way, movies from High School Musical (2006) to Speed Racer (2008) get the full-on parody treatment, while annoying pop culture icons like Flava-Flav (Abe Spigner), Prince (Tad Hilgenbrink), and Dr. Phil (John Di Domenico) get skewed in the process. Watch for the weirdest scenes, like when the gang have to fight both Po from Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Indiana Jones when they come to life in the museum, like in Night at the Museum (2006). Okay, so the plot is really just a mishmash of pop culture references that haven't aged well, but there are two scenes that still hold up. Between all the goofiness and light-hearted jabs, eventual Jeopardy champion Ike Barinholtz teams up with a body double to show off some ass in two scenes. He's Beowulf, and our bae Ike makes standing in a hallway with some stuff blocking his junk look oh, so good. Not to be undone, Abe Spigner adds a dash of ass while prying himself out of an awkward situation in the bedroom. He's Flava Flav, and that black ass has Mr. Man yelling "Yeah, boy!" Thanks to Abe and Ike, Disaster Movie is not a total disaster!
