Dream Boy (2008)

Based on the 1995 Jim Grisley novel of the same name, Dream Boy (2008) is a romantic drama about the relationship between two gay teenagers in 1970s rural Louisiana. Stephan Bender is Nathan Davies, a fifteen-year-old boy living next door to the boy of his dreams, Roy (Maximillian Roeg). Roy's older, cooler, and has a gorgeous girlfriend (Rooney Mara in her film debut). But when the pair start working on algebra problems together, it's not long before Nathan and Roy are doing a little touching and kissing. Roy doesn't want to go further with Nathan, who swears he's never done anything like this before despite being oddly comfortable with the idea. Ends up Nathan's done all sorts of nasty stuff because his drunk dad (Thomas Jay Ryan) has done all sorts of sexual stuff to him for years. Gross. When they start doing it for real, Roy and Nathan will end up going on a camping trip with some dudes who find out about them and go berserk. Boy of your dreams or not, it ends up being gay in the rural South not long after segregation ended was a nightmare. Who knew? Oh, everyone. The film has some tender moments of man-on-man love, but also some extreme examples of what lust can do when two men aren’t able to control their desires. Mr. Man would gladly and willingly bend over for Stephan Bender, but in the movie, hegets taken sexual advantage of by Randy Wayne, shirtless and wearing only underwear, in a violent and ugly way. Maximilian Roeg is shirtless, too, but in a blow-job-in-a-tent scene. Later on they will all take a brief-wearing dip in the watering hole. Every man for himself! Those scenes in Dream Boy will make you cream, boy!
