Chilean director Pablo Larraín made a huge splash with his English language debut Jackie (2016), the Oscar nominated film starring Natalie Portman. For his follow up, Larraín is diving into the world of psychological horror with the film Ema (2019)! Gael García Bernal, with whom the director worked on both No (2012) and Neruda (2016), co-stars alongside Mariana di Girólama as former couple Gaston and Ema, who went their separate ways after they ended up giving back the extremely troubled son they adopted together. One year on, Ema is now living her dream of working as a professional dancer in the Spanish port city of Valparaíso, though she is masking the pain of her failed motherhood through inordinate amounts of casual sex. One of the men she begins a sexual relationship with is Aníbal (Santiago Cabrera), whom we discover is actually married to Raquel (Paola Giannini) and is carrying on a relationship with Ema in secret. However, it soon becomes obvious that Ema isn't merely interested in just Aníbal when she begins to seduce Raquel as well, leading to a shocking revelation that plays into Ema's fractured mental state. The film is an absolute mind fuck, bouncing between crazy scenarios and mixing in psychedelic visions of an apocalyptic future that keeps the audience off balance throughout. Sadly, there's little in the way of skin in this flick, though we do get a nice look at Santiago Cabrera's bare ass at the hour and five minute mark when he has sex with the title character! It's quite an ass though, which leads us to believe that Ema will make you cream-a!
