Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)

A lot of films that get released started out as much different films that were then rewritten, reedited, or tinkered with by the studio so much that they barely resemble their original intended form. One such project is Fun with Dick and Jane (2005), a remake of the 1977 comedy of the same name. When first announced in 2003, the film was going to star Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, with director Barry Sonnenfeld (The Addams Family, Men in Black) attached to direct a script written by The Coen Brothers. By the time the film actually came out in the summer of 2005, Carrey was the only one of those people still involved in the project and what sounded like a super promising comedy remake instead became another bland cookie cutter big box comedy where the rubber faced comedian does his best to elevate subpar material. Carrey and Tea Leoni star as a couple whose American dream goes up in smoke when he becomes the fall guy for a massive scandal at his job in corporate America. Bound and determined to keep their dream lives no matter the cost, they turn to a life of crime to keep paying the bills, and all manner of PG-13 hijinks ensue. That PG-13 rating also obviously excludes any potential nude content in the film and about as sexy as it gets is when Jim Carrey goes shirtless to bathe himself using their neighbors' lawn sprinklers after their water gets shut off.
