The title of My Best Friend’s Wife (2001) can be misleading since it’s also the name of the Italian flick My Best Friend’s Wife (1998) and similar to the American pic My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997). If that’s not perplexing enough, the movie is also known as Grownups, not to be confused with the Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups (2010). Before we get more dick, we mean more distracted, let’s talk a little about the sexing, we mean setting. Per the direction of Doug Finelli (who co-wrote the screenplay with Mitch Galane), this dramedy follows Steve Richards (John Stamos) and Eric Meyer (Daniel London). The buds are married guys who feel stifled by their New Jersey lives. To add some pep into their steps, they joke about wife swapping. Since their wives — Ami (Meredith Salenger) and Claire (Tara Westwood) — are also bored with their lives, they agree to the spousal exchange. Of course, this idea starts to sound less amusing and more arousing when it’s more likely to become a reality. After all, if Wife Swap (2004-2020) works on TV, why wouldn’t it in real life? Do the words “don’t try this at home” mean anything? As you can guess, the couples experience various complications brought on by the swap. Most problematic to Mr. Man is the fact that neither of the dudes go nude. In other words, this indie flick is low on budget and on skin. But at least, Mr. Stamos flashes his abs while in the sack!
