Based on the Anton Chekov short story of the same name and chocking in and about forty minutes long, Romance with a Double Bass (1974) tells the story of a professional bassist named Smychkov (John Cleese) who shows up early for his performance at a ball celebrating the upcoming marriage of Princess Constanza (Connie Booth). He decides to take a quick swim in a nearby river, totally nude, only to realize the Princess is fishing at the same water hole. He tries to be slick and attach a bouquet of flowers to her hook, only for the line to get stuck and her to strip down to retrieve it. Wouldn't you know it, along comes a crook (Terry Nelson) who swipes both of their clothes, and the poor musician and ravishing princess end up trapped under the water totally nude. This seems to happen a lot when you skinny-dip in movies. From there, it's a comedy of errors as the two run around the woods hiding their private parts and trying to keep from being seen while making their way to the big shindig. Cleese and Booth were married at the time, and actually wrote the screenplay to this short film together. Far from short on nudity, we catch John from the side, shirtless and rear on several occasions as he lugs his bass case back inside while trying to avoid being seen. It is played for comedy, but we were playing with ourselves watching John cover his junk! Cleese looks great showing off the cheeks, which are on prominent display. We don’t quite get a glimpse of his Monty Python, but what we do get to see is hot enough to cause a flying circus to break out in your pants! Sign Mr. Man up for a little romance with that bubble ass after watching Romance with a Double Bass!
