Three (1969)

Judging by the UK’s racy releases, sex was clearly on the minds of Brits back in 1969. The year produced provocative pics from the sexploitation flick The Smashing Bird I Used to Know to the Ken Russell classic Women in Love. Plus, there were a lot of racy romps, such as A Nice Girl Like Me, A Promise of Bed, A Talent for Loving, Carry On Again Doctor, Carry On Camping, Lock Up Your Daughters!, Sinful Davey, Some Girls Do, Till Death Us Do Part, and What’s Good for the Goose. While James Bond was seducing spies in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, a couple of fellows were flaunting their flesh in Three (1969). Not to be confused with the German movie Three (2010) or the Serbian film Three (2023), this English drama is based on Irwin Shaw’s short story “Then We Were Three” (1958). The skinematic adaptation follows American college students Taylor (Sam Waterston) and Bert (Robie Porter) as they vacation in the Mediterranean. While abroad, they meet many broads: Ann (Gillian Hills), Hélène (Franca Tasso), and Liz (Edina Ronay). But the one who catches their eye (as well as another part of the anatomy) is a British beauty named Marty (Charlotte Rampling). Although they try to keep things platonic, temptation arises when a topless Mr. Porter struts his stuff in bathing trunks. If that’s not hot enough, Mr. Waterston flashes his abs, back and ass when he goes swimming in the buff. The sexy sight will make you splash yourself!
