Directed by Mike Leigh, the classic dark drama Naked (1993) couldn't be any further from Leigh's later work like Happy-Go-Lucky (2008). This one's dark and disturbing, but at least there's dong! That always makes us happy! The film centers on Johnny (David Thewlis), a spunky kid who gets a little carried away during a sexual encounter in a Manchester alley with a married woman. When the poor woman starts screaming, good ol’ Johnny steals a car and heads to London to hide out at the house of his ex-girlfriend, Louise (Lesley Sharp). She’s at work, but her unemployed hippy roommate, Sophie (Katrin Cartlidge), lets him in, and the two indulge in a night full of drugs and sex. After the action is over, Johnny continues on his odyssey through London, where he meets an odd cast of characters: Archie (Ewen Bremner), a screaming Scottish kid; Brian (Peter Wight), a security guard; and Jeremy (Greg Cruttwell), his ex’s psycho landlord. When Johnny has a violent run-in with Jeremy, and Louise and Sophie’s roommate Sandra (Claire Skinner) returns home after a long trip, the wandering, pad-crashing dude must leave and head back out on his journey. Yes, if at any point in the movie it looks like Johnny is going to settle down, he immediately commits a crime and runs to the hills immediately after. That's his M.O. It’s a tough film to watch, but if you're a ho-mo like, you’ll be rewarded with a look at David Thewlis’ semi-erect (and quite impressive) schlong. Yes, Remus Lupin is packing a wonder wand down below, which he is happy to show when he hops out of bed and lets that thing dangle directly in front of the camera! Shout out to Mr. Thewlis for living up to the title of the film!
