Biography

British comedian, director, presenter and writer Stephen Merchant speaks softly and carries a big stick. We’re just guessing about that last part. But considering he stands an impressive 6’ 7”, we’re willing to bet that Stephen’s little Merchant is probably proportionate. Perhaps that’s why the lanky bloke is willing to play second fiddle to Ricky Gervais. After the two met in 1997, they created the original BBC series The Office (2001-2003). Since then, the hilarious duo collaborated on other shows, such as Extras (2005-2007), An Idiot Abroad (2010-2011), Life’s Too Short (2011-2013), and the award-winning radio program/podcast/audiobook/TV series The Ricky Gervais Show (2005-2012). Stephen has since co-created Lip Sync Battle (2015-present) with John Krasinski, who starred in the American version of The Office (2005-2013). For the comedy series Dream Corp, LLC (2016-present) and The Outlaws (2021-present), Merchant works in front of and behind the camera. If that’s not entertaining enough, the boob tube babe bared his chest and bathing trunks on a 2014 episode of Modern Family (2009-2020). His live stand-up act Hello Ladies (2011) launched the HBO sitcom of the same name in 2013. Like Hello Ladies: The Movie (2014), it showcases his naked chest. Yet while the film includes views of Stephen’s skivvies and swimwear, the television series exposes his nude booty! Through the years, Merchant could also be seen in the Academy Award-nominated movie Jojo Rabbit (2019) and heard in the computer-animated flicks Gnomeo and Juliet (2011) and Sherlock Gnomes (2018). Needless to say, Stephen has a bulging… résumé!
