The sophomore feature film by London born horror filmmaker Anthony Hickox (Waxwork, Hellraiser III) is Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989) a horror western comedy genre mashup pitting cult sensations David Carradine and Bruce Campbell against one another. Carradine stars as Count Jozek Mardulak, the leader of an underground cult of vampires who migrate to the American Southwest town of Purgatory where they hope to live in peace and seclusion from a world that wants them dead. However, the key to their survival is the production of a synthetic form of blood but when the manufacturing plant breaks down, Mardulak invites the plant's former head scientist and his family to come for an all expenses paid vacation wherein their hope is that the scientist will be able to get production up and running again. One of the vampires, Ethan Jefferson (John Ireland) is sick of waiting for the synthetic blood and organizes a group of like-minded vampires to descend first on the family, then on nearby towns to pillage the human population. And all of this coincides with the arrival of legendary vampire hunter Robert Van Helsing (Bruce Campbell), who has tracked the vampires across the country and aims to put an end to them. While the film is devoid of any nudity, Grease II and Empire Records hunk Maxwell Caufield is on hand as a randy vampire who seduces the scientist's wife! While he appears to be completely nude in the seduction scene, advanced technology has shown that he's clearly wearing a privacy pouch. Do you still want to get busy with Maxwell? Say no more, mon amour!
