Super Troopers (2001)

Super Troopers (2001) is the first film from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe which is dedicated to the Animal House (1978) template of lovable wisenheimers enjoying harmless hijinks. In fact, the script comes out and says so! In other words, it’s another batch of crazy, vulgar, sex-lovin’ good guys up against the oppressive authority figures — except, in this case, the heroic rebels are Vermont state troopers. Lieutenant Arcot “Thorny” Ramathorn (Jay Chandrasekhar), Carl Foster (Paul Soter), MacIntyre “Mac” Womack (Steve Lemme), Robbie “Rabbit” (Roto Erik Stolhanske), Rodney “Rod” Farva (Kevin Heffernan), and Captain John O’Hagen (Brian Cox) find themselves up against a drug dealing ringleader (Jimmy Noonan), a bunch of corrupt cops (Dan Fey, Daniel von Bargen, James Grace, Michael Weaver), and the state governor (Lynda Carter). The film also features Jim Gaffigan, Marisa Coughlan, Walt MacPherson, and Mr. Chandrasekhar’s hairy chest! In one scene, the latter actor touts his bulging underwear. The same can be said for a shirtless Philippe Brenninkmeyer. Not to be outdone, Mr. Lemme reveals his rump in a bulletproof jockstrap. Perhaps that’s why the racy romp received the Audience Award at South by Southwest and spawned the sequel Super Troopers 2 (2018). As was the case with Animal House, this movie includes male nudity amid the gags. As such, Mr. Heffernan has a hilarious hose down that showcases his bare back at the 58-minute mark. If that’s not naked enough, he also flashes his ass, balls, and shaft when he gets a powdered sugar shower. Sweet!
