The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)

Acclaimed playwright turned filmmaker Martin McDonagh is back with his fourth feature film, The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), reuniting him with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, the co-leads from his first feature film In Bruges (2007). Here, Farrell plays the dim-witted Padraic, who lives with his sister (Kerry Condon) on the titular Irish island, and whose best friend is the local fiddle player Colm (Gleeson), though when we first meet the characters, Colm has stopped talking to Padraic. In fact, Colm has decided he doesn't want to be friends with Padraic anymore and if Padraic continues attempting to find out why or talk to Colm in any way, Colm has vowed to cut off one of his fingers and give it to Padraic. This portrait of male aggression, set against the backdrop of the Irish Civil War of the early 1920s, pulls no punches from beginning to end, including a shocking male nude scene where character actor Gary Lydon shows off his cock and balls while passed out naked in a chair! That'll have you howling like a banshee!
