Review

The Notebook (2004) is the favorite movie of sorority girls, masochists, and people who believe Ryan Gosling is best bearded and damaged. ::Raises hand to the last one::. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the story, we’d like to warn that spoilers are indeed ahead. Based on Nicolas Spark’s novel of the same name, The Notebook hits all the tearjerker high notes by introducing us to gorgeous, Southern, 1940’s, war torn youths, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, who fall irrevocably in love despite… the odds. The story of their whirlwind affair is told from a current day nursing home, and it turns out one of the geriatrics we meet is actually a grown up Rachel McAdams with memory loss. We won’t spoil too much but we will say that the old people end up… something that rhymes with frying.

In addition to making the world ugly cry, The Notebook also cemented Gosling as a boner, we mean bona, fide heartthrob! The gorgeous actor steals the show with his youthful face and insane bod and became the new standard for brooding big screen babes. If you’re in it for the gun show, you’ll be happy to know that Ryan sheds his shirt in multiple scenes, even getting dripping wet while going at it with Rachel. Your eyes won’t be the only thing leaking!
