Jay Roach's acclaimed drama Trumbo (2015) is a moving biopic about the man that dared to take on the infamous Hollywood blacklist of the 1940’s and 1950’s, Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston). Trumbo was a brilliant screenwriter pumping out hits like the Ginger Rogers flick Kitty Foyle (1940), which landed him an Oscar nomination. He was also an anti-war isolationist who was closely aligned with the Communist party. Trumbo's beliefs took the spotlight in 1947 when he was sentenced to jail with nine fellow screenwriters - referred to as the Hollywood 10 - for their sympathy towards the Communist Party. Through his charisma and wit Trumbo was able to subtly subvert the absurdity of the situation and was crucial in ending the ridiculous Hollywood blacklist. But Trumbo never stopped writing. While his name isn't in the credits of any of them, Trumbo secretly wrote some of the biggest movies of the 50's like Roman Holiday (1953) and The Brave One (1956). Not bad, comrade! Cranston’s performance earned him an Oscar nomination, though the award ultimately went to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant (2015). Apparently, sleeping in a bear is more impressive than writing in a bathtub. Luckily, in Trumbo Bryan spends his time in jail wisely. In one scene, he talks to a guard through the bars, showing off his distinguished shirtless bod and hot ass while he stands in the nude! Sorry HUAC, those buns will make you jack! Better dead than red, but Mr. Man would happily take that commie to bed. Click the link and check out the Bryan Cranston but shot in Trumbo, dumbo!
