One of the most famous scary stories ever, even if kids who grew up after cell phones killed landlines won't really understand why, When a Stranger Calls (1979) stars Carol Kane as a babysitter being tormented by a dude on the telephone who comes to find out those crank calls are from a psychotic crank. Carol stars as Jill Johnson, a babysitter who keeps getting phone calls from a creepy guy asking if she's checked on the kids that are sleeping upstairs. She ignores him at first, but he refuses to stop calling. When she calls the cops, they trace the call and iconically tell her "the calls are coming from inside the house!" Dun dun dun! You probably knew that part but might not have realized the cops catch the killer (Tony Beckley) and stick him in a looney bin. Of course, he escapes and starts harassing a now married mother of two version of Jill with the same creepy phone calls. Hopefully, private detective John Clifford (Charles Durning) can save her before the line isn't the only thing that's dead. Mr. Man has to drop a dime and inform you that there's a dude with an ass you can bounce quarters off of in this classic scarefest. Tony Beckley plays the psychotic killer who shows off his breakdown - er, I mean, his buns - when he looks at himself naked in the mirror. He's clearly in the middle of something, since he's crying to himself after staring in the mirror for a weirdly long amount of time, totally nude. It's kind of a strange scene, but we're into it! After watching When a Stranger Calls, we'll comfort you anytime you want, Tony! Just call us up!
