Much like Carol Reed's classic film The Third Man, writer and director Matthew Tabak's film Auggie Rose (2000) is named in reference to a character who has barely any screen time. In this case, Kim Coates' title character dies in the arms of Jeff Goldblum's John Nolan, an insurance salesman whose entire life has been stuck in an unmanageable rut. So, he decides to assume the dead man's identity and live a secret double life away from the eyes of his live-in girlfriend Carol (Nancy Travis). What John can't possibly expect, however, is how the people in ex-con Auggie Rose's life are going to react to him still being alive, namely the mobsters to whom he still owes a debt and his ex-girlfriend Lucy (Anne Heche), who gives Goldblum a bath in the film's sexiest scene, though the bubbles obscure his best bits!
