Action, crime and camp collide in the sexploitation romp Big Bad Mama (1974), not to be confused with its sequel Big Bad Mama II (1987). Produced by Roger Corman, this cult classic centers around Wilma McClatchie (Angie Dickinson), a tough Texan mother trying to make ends meet during the Great Depression. With no money to speak of, the titular matriarch and her teenage daughters — Billie Jean (Susan Sennett) and Polly (Robbie Lee) — head off to California in search of fortune. Along the way, the dangerous dames rob a bank, pick up a safe-cracking thief named Fred Diller (Tom Skerrit) and a cunning conman called William J. Baxter (William Shatner). Together, they plan to mug a preacher (Royal Dano), steal from a horse racing track, and kidnap heiress Jane Kingston (Joan Prather) while whacking off a few people (and not in a good way). Yeah, it’s that kind of road trip. As a snide lawman (Dick Miller) gets hot on the tail of the troublemaking trio and their sidekicks, you’ll get even hotter when you see Mr. Skerrit’s tail. At the film’s 01:18:13 mark, Tom touts his tanned back and pale heinie as he and Angie play hide the Dickinson! Granted, the flesh flash is fast but that’s what freeze frame is for. The infamous flick also features Sally Kirkland and Mr. Shatner’s chest! Yes, William sheds his threads to bed the leading lady. Too bad all of the good bits on Captain Kirk are strategically blocked. Ream us up, Scottie!
