Back in the day, movie theaters and drive-ins would heat up during the summer since that’s when a bunch of seasonally-themed pics were released. Through the years, film fans flocked to see Gene Kelly in Summer Stock (1950), James Mathers in Summer Magic (1963), Gary Grimes in Summer of ’42 (1971), Peter Gallagher in Summer Lovers (1982), Mark Harmon in Summer School (1987), Ryan Phillippe in I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), Adrien Brody in Summer of Sam (1999), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer (2009). Of course, we’d be remiss not to include Corvette Summer (1978) on this list. The PG rated comedy is probably best remembered for being the first film Mark Hamill appeared in post-Star Wars (1977). Under the pen and direction of Matthew Robbins, Hamill plays a gear-head named Ken who spends more time in auto shop class than he does in the library. But when the tricked-out Corvette that belongs to the school goes missing, Ken sets out on a cross-country odyssey to track it down. While in Las Vegas, he meets a teenage prostitute (Annie Potts) who joins him on his quest. The film may not hold up, but it’s the only way to see Mark in his topless prime. Check out his naked chest as he performs several scenes sans shirt. There’s also a fleeting flash of butt crack when he stands atop a sign in the desert. Suffice it to say, Corvette Summer will get you hot under the hood!
