Cyanide (2013)

Love is poisonous in the French drama Cyanide (2013). Thirteen-year-old Achille (Alexandre Etzlinger) patiently waits for his estranged father Joe (Roy Dupuis) to be released from prison. Since daddy has spent most of his son’s life in lock up, the hopeful child has been left to concoct fantasies of family life with a father. In his head, his dad is an ultra-cool, badass dude who only got put away because the cops were jealous of his awesomeness. Even though Achille can’t wait for dad to be sprung, his mother Pénélope (Sabine Timoteo) has since moved on with a relationship with her boss (Christophe Sermet). While Pénélope encourages Joe to be a father to his lonely son, she seeks a divorce from the jailbird. As Achille gets lost in the idolization of his dad, he tries his best to bring his broken parents back together. Of course, it won't be long before Achille has to realize that his dad is far from the hero he's built up in his head, and his mom's boyfriend he thinks is such a bore is actually a pretty good dude.
