Def by Temptation (1990)

This 1990 Troma Entertainment production is time capsule of the African American horror genre  and not just because it contains two very well known faces: A Different World’s Kadeem Harrison and a very young, pre-fame Samuel L. Jackson. Even with aspects of a B picture, it’s plot, music, and character relationships are no doubt the inspiration for a number of films that followed it. Written, produced, directed by, and starring child actor James Bond III, Def By Temptation tells the story of two friends, future preacher Joel (Bond), following in the footsteps of his father (Jackson), and K (Harrison) the more liberal, untethered one who is pursuing a career in movies. Joel visits K in New York right as a succubus is terrorizing the dating scene and the two attempt to thwart her with the help of a government agent. Luckily they don’t succeed before we see this tantalizing temptress (played by Cynthia Bond) seduce a buck naked John Canada Terrell before chasing and eventually devouring this hot hunk of man meat. And we thought it was tough being single now!
