The very real phenomenon known as "object sexuality" is explored in the offbeat Belgian flick Jumbo (2020). Inspired by the true story of a woman who married The Eiffel Tower, writer/director Zoé Wittock's feature debut explores the notion of a shy young woman named Jeanne (Noémie Merlant) who falls passionately in love with an amusement park ride she dubs Jumbo. Jeanne's existence is a lonely one as her extroverted mother Margarette (Emmanuelle Bercot) simply doesn't understand why her daughter seems content to cut herself off from human interaction. At the amusement park where she works, Jeanne seems to be the only person who admires the art and craftsmanship behind the many rides at the park. However, when a new Tilt-a-Whirl-esque ride called "Move It" is brought to the park, Jeanne finds herself falling madly in love with it, giving it the pet name Jumbo and even becoming sexually enamored with it! To complicate matters, an equally shy young carnival worker named Marc (Bastien Bouillon), who has always admired Jeanne from afar, has decided that now might be the right time to confess his feelings for her, blissfully unaware that Jeanne only has eyes for Jumbo. We, however, only have eyes for Bastien Bouillon at the sixty-three minute mark when he strips nude in front of Jeanne, revealing his cock, balls, and buns before they begin to have sex. It's a dimly lit scene and a pretty sad one to boot, but there's no denying that Bastien's dick is like a bright and shining beacon blazing in the dark! Jumbo, indeed!
