If women are attracted to power, fame, cash and above all else the bad boy, then it's no surprise the infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar had his fair share of suitors. None were as special to him as the accomplished journalist Virginia Vallejo. Based on her biography, Loving Pablo (2017) tells the story of how her romantic relationship with the Colombian Cartel king from 1981 to 1987. The film kicks off by showing us that Virginia (Penelope Cruz) will eventually cooperate with American authorities and flee Colombia, then flashes back in time to when Virginia was first introduced to Pablo (Javier Bardem). He had a wife (Julieth Restrepo) already, and she had a husband who refused to sign divorce papers, but their attraction was electric so Pablo made her hubby an offer he couldn't refuse. She's a journalist who keeps coming across stories of the schools Pablo has set up, the housing he's building for the community, and the kids he's pulled out of poverty. But she's not naive to all the murdering he does. Virginia tries to balance this duality while enjoying all the attention, gifts, and fame that comes with being Pablo's mistress. Eventually his violent streak and her desire to not meet the same kind of grisly fate she knows he will, have Virginia ratting on her man and publishing the book "Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar." Penelope's real-life hubby Javier Bardem plays the portly Pablo and is barely recognizable as the infamous drug lord. In one scene he is naked and running from helicopters in the woods with his ass jiggling behind him. He's wearing prosthetics to really look like later-in-life Pablo, but it's still naked Javier under there! If you've ever wondered what Javier Bardem would look like if he put on a few pounds, there it is. Still super poundable! Loving Pablo wanting to do some coke with that smoke!
