When it comes down to storytelling via filmmaking, Mr. Man believes the best kind of visual effects are Personal Effects (2009). Not to be confused with the sports movie Personal Best (1982), this drama includes Kathy Bates and the voice of Topher Grace. Based on “Mansion on the Hill” by Rick Moody, the plot centers around a young wrestler named Walter (Ashton Kutcher) who is struggling to deal with the violent death of his sister. While attending a grief support meeting, Walter encounters Linda (Michelle Pfeiffer). She is a beautiful, single mom whose husband was killed by his buddy. In addition to sharing similar losses, the two are physically attracted to one another. Walter even helps Linda out by mentoring her son Clay (Spencer Hudson). Needless to say, Linda falls for her suitor in a big way. But trouble comes when Walter worries that the guy who offed his sister may get away with murder. As such, he considers taking matters into his own hands. You’ll also be taking something into your own hands when you get a gander at Walter’s skin. Fast forward to the 39-minute mark to see the stud doff his duds. Under the direction of David Hollander (who adapted the screenplay), we get to see some impeccable pecs. If that’s not titillating enough, the sexy scene also showcases a sweet pair of buns. Alas, the ass is not Ashton’s. It’s the flesh on his body double. Apparently, Personal Effects does have some special effects after all. How cheeky!
