Rounders (1998)

Set in New York against the backdrop of a seedy world of high-stakes poker, the thriller Rounders (1998) follows Mike McDermott (Matt Damon), a gifted card player that takes time from his law school studies to engage in a dangerous and costly game of illegal poker. When the card stud loses thirty grand in a hand of Texas hold’em against the ruthless Teddy “KGB” (John Malkovich), the Russian mobster who runs the underground system, Mike gets shaken to his very soul, and his bank account. Of course, all it takes is a hot chick, fellow law student, Jo (Gretchen Mol), to get the alliterative-named gambler back to his studies and keep his nose clean in the process. All is well until Mike’s best bud Lester “Worm” Murphy (Edward Norton), a fellow card player with an outstanding debt, is released from prison. It’s only a matter of time before the best friends are neck deep into their poker-playing ways, and Mike quickly finds himself battling with KGB again in an attempt to pay off Worm’s debt. The stakes are high, but the male nudity is disappointingly low. John Turturro bares his upper body while clad only in a towel, enjoying the cleansing perks of a Russian bathhouse. Also, Michael Rispoli gives us an eyeful of underwear bulge while babbling business. The cast of Rounders, clothed or unclothed, will give your genitals a royal flush!
