The Best Man (1999)

Mr. Man says “I do” to the rom-com The Best Man (1999). Not to be confused with Best Man Down (2012) starring Justin Long, this flick features Taye Diggs as an up-and-coming writer named Harper. He’s just published his first novel that’s landed a coveted spot on Oprah Winfrey’s Book Club. Exciting, right? Well, it appears that the emerging author created characters loosely based on his friends from college. No big deal, right? Wrong. When Harper is asked to be the best man at the wedding of his friends Lance (Morris Chestnut) and Mia (Monica Calhoun), the tension begins to mount. It seems as though all of Harper’s friends have received advanced copies of his work, and they’re obviously having problems with being used as fictional fodder. On top of that, the much talked about novel reveals some dirty secrets, including a hook up between Harper and Mia. As such, the worried wordsmith must do his best to keep the book out of Lance’s hands until after the wedding. Too bad Jordan (Nia Long), a mischievous bridesmaid, does her best to spill the beans before the big day. Lots of drama, right? Well, Taye Diggs cuts through it all when he strips down to his boxers and puts on an ab-tastic display of his perfect pecs. Since this flick’s sequel The Best Man Holiday (2013), we’ve been waiting with masturbated breath for the next chapter. Hopefully the third installment will be the charm and we’ll get to see more of Taye’s assets!
