The Lakes (1997)

John Simm plays Danny Kavanagh, a 20-something trapped in a life of compulsive gambling and theft who leaves the big city for the idyllic countryside in The Lakes (1997), an acclaimed BBC drama. Although Simm expects to find peace and quiet in the quaint Lake District, he instead gets caught up in even more intrigue and tragedy than he had in Liverpool -- he even becomes the prime suspect in the deaths of three schoolgirls. As the series goes on, more secrets and lies of the quiet community are revealed. Simm doesn’t reveal any of his own skin secrets, but two actors -- Charles Dale and Matt Bardock -- thankfully step in and fill that very important role and fill The Lakes with a few glimpses of their remarkably round hills.
