It's a bit odd to watch a movie about the Hellscape that was The Vietnam War, and kind of wish you were there just because there are so many shots of absurdly hot men with no girlfriends around to keep them warm at night. However, that's precisely the case with the Australian soldier flick The Odd Angry Shot (1979). Based on real life soldier William Nagle's book of the same name, this slow-moving drama stars Graham Kennedy and John Hargreaves as Harry and Bung, two slices of fresh Aussie meat shipped off to Vietnam during the height of the conflict. Rather than throw us directly into the fire, the first half of the film mostly centers around the soldiers killing time in their barracks, getting accustomed to crappy food, intense boredom, and the petty squabbles that break out from time to time. But after a mortar hits their encampment and kills a few of them, it's not long before Harry and Bung are fling headfirst into the action. Faced with sneak attacks, booby traps, and resistance from an outdated military bureaucracy, these G.I. Wallabies will have to band together if they want to make it out alive. But as most Vietnam movies show, coming back home in one piece doesn't mean you come back the same. Thanks to a vicious outbreak of ringworm, the Australian forces the movie depicts were obsessed with keeping themselves clean. While not killing combatants in the jungle, the band of beefcakes must keep clean and fresh. In a flesh-filled shower scene, Graeme Blundell, Bryan Brown, Brandon Burke, and John Jarrett flash their behinds and go full frontal. Not one of them, all of these Viet Cong fighters flash their cocks in the outdoor shower. No one drops the soap, but you’ll drop your pants and do double time on your G.I. genitals! But no hairy hog from Harry? No bunghole from Bung? Okay, we guess the stars are too busy fighting the commies to flash their stuff. If they ever invent timetravel, jump to the past and shoot your shot with these lonely GIs! After all, the shower scene in The Odd Angry Shot will have you shooting a rope!
