The Ruins (2008)

Sometimes travelers need to get away from their get-aways. At least that’s the case when it comes to The Out of Towners (1970), Deliverance (1972), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), Westworld (1973), National Lampoon’s European Vacation (1985), Jurassic Park (1993), The River Wild (1994), Titanic (1997), Hostel (2005), The Hangover (2009), 127 Hours (2010), Life of Pi (2012), Spring Breakers (2012), Shallow Water (2017), Midsommar (2019), Palm Springs (2020), The Trip (2021), and Triangle of Sadness (2022). Another addition for this list is The Ruins (2008). Based on the same-named novel, this R-rated flick follows a group of tourists in Cancun. Once Amy (Jena Malone), Eric (Shawn Ashmore), Jeff (Jonathan Tucker), Mathias (Joe Anderson) and Stacy (Laura Ramsey) explore a forbidden temple, they soon discover why the natives have worked so hard to keep it off the maps. To their growing horror, the visitors find themselves trapped on a Mayan pyramid with a famished, human-eating plant that’s bent on devouring them alive. Fortunately, the news isn’t all bad since Mr. Tucker flashes his flesh. Granted, the handsome hunk doesn’t expose his junk, but he parades his pecs throughout the pic — whether he’s in the bed, bath or beyond. In fact, Jonathan shows off his awesome abs and beautiful buns after getting out of the shower. Now, that’s what we call a real tourist attraction! Too bad, his girlfriend is vomiting in the scene. But he’s such a sport, he kisses her on the mouth. Now, that’s a twist we didn’t see coming!
