The Slap (US) (2015)

Proof that A-listers and successful source material don't always lead to great television; NBC's The Slap came out in 2015 with all sorts of buzz thanks to it being based on a 2011 Aussie miniseries of the same name. Set in New York, the American version stars Peter Sarsgaard and Thandi Newton as married couple Hector and Aisha. He’s a civil servant and she’s a doctor. He just got a promotion and she’s busy getting shit together at her new clinic, but she finds time to throw a 40th birthday party for him. Attending Hector’s bash are his annoying parents, Manilos and Koula (Brian Cox and Maria Tucci); hunky cousin Harry (Zachary Quinto) and his wife, Sandi (Marlin Ireland); friends Gary and Rosie (Thomas Sadoski and Melissa George) and their pain-in-the-ass kid, Hugo (Dylan Schombing), the one that receives the titular punishment. Oh, and let’s not forget the other guests: Anouk (Uma Thurman) and her boy-toy Jaime (Penn Badgley), babysitter Connie (Makenzie Leigh) and her buddy, Ritchie (Lucas Hedges). This is some birthday party! During the party, while Hector is flirting it up with the babysitter, the poorly behaved Hugo starts swinging a baseball bat at the other kids. An angry Harry confronts the lil’ slugger. Hugo kicks Harry, Harry slaps Hugo, and all hell breaks loose. Little Hugo's mom Rosie says her kid has PTSD from the violence and tries to take Harry to court, friendships crumble, and debates about corporal punishment get heated. Yes, he hit the little bully but so what? Is there anything for Mr. Man to spank it to? Yes, while parents in America might have gone soft, you'll get good and hard seeing Peter Sarsgaard walking from the bedroom to the bathroom in his briefs. There's also a look at Zachary Quinto walking around in a towel, which is more than enough if you want to slap the salami. Yes, the best thing to come from the show might be a hilarious parody where a man slaps everyone at the party, including some grannies, but The Slap will make you fap!
