The Young Pope (2016) will have you on your knees, especially if you were praying to see naked men! Paolo Sorrentino’s 10-part saga follows the exploits of the first American Pope, Pius XIII, played by the decidedly non-American actor Jude Law. Pius began life as Lenny Belardo, an orphan raised by Sister Mary (Diane Keaton) in the Big Apple. When Len ends up joining the Catholic Church, he rises all the way to Archbishop of New York before getting the white smoke treatment. A devoted and faithful servant of God, and one of the youngest men ever elected to the position, the new Pope is supposed to do whatever his elders tell him. But they soon learn that this seriously conservative servant of the Lord is going to follow his own beliefs if he can just focus on the body of Christ, and ignore all the bods on women trying to polish off his pastoral staff. Thanks to its maxi production values, this miniseries boasts lavish sets, gorgeous locales, and beautiful cinematography. Of course, the most stunning image is Mr. Law washing his wet chest and bare butt in the shower. Jude’s cheeks are truly heaven-sent! If that’s not divine enough, Cardinal Dussolier (Scott Shepard), Maribeth (Rayna Tharani) and a nude dude (Gil Perez-Abraham) flash their collective flesh during a threesome of Biblical proportions. Amen! Yes, HBO takes a show about a bunch of celibates and injects it with all sorts of sexual situations. In other words, The Young Pope is dope!
