To the Ends of the World (2018)

Here in the US of A we talk a lot about how miserable "The War in Vietnam" was. But from a global perspective, there were lots of wars in Vietnam, and if To the Ends of the World (2018) is to be believed, they were all just as miserable as ours. This French war drama takes place in 1945, when the French were fighting against the Communist Viet Minh soldiers looking to take control of the country. French soldier Robert Tassen (Gaspard Ulliel) is caught in the middle of The First Indochina War when he ends up the lone survivor in a battle that killed his brother. After crawling out of the mass grave and needing to be brought back to life by local villagers, Robert wants revenge and meets up with others who will fight with him against the "enemy". But that all changes when he falls in love with a local woman (Lang Khe Tran) who makes him stray from his mission. Suddenly, vengeance takes a backdoor to boning his new Vietnamese girlfriend.
