Another mindblower from expert blower of minds Ken Russell, Altered States (1980) stars William Hurt as a wacky scientist who experiments with drugs and sensory deprivation to explore man's collective unconscious. As always, this proves to be a bad idea. After studying schizophrenics, Edward Jessup (William Hurt) becomes convinced that altered states of consciousness are just as real as normal ones, they just need to be accessed correctly. Trying to make that happen, he starts messing with psychotropic drugs and sensory deprivation to prove it. While teaching at Harvard, he heads to Mexico to mess around with the shroom popping Hinchi Tribe. The Hinchi are rather conservative with their stuff, but Edward thinks he can bring it back to the USA, tinker with its high, and really get wild. Soon enough, the shrooms have Edward regressing into primitive man and running around the local zoo, where he munches down on raw antelope. But that's not all. Eventually he'll devolve back into a mass of energy, as his poor wife Emily (Blair Brown) tries and tries to get her husband back. Unearthing the unconscious source of man's desires naturally makes Hurt one horny camper, and he pitches his tent for his wife several times in what marked his film debut. Hurt even exposes his ass and anaconda, for those interested in wrapping their lips around his pipe. Talk about Homo Erectus! On top of seeing William's willy when he's having a seizure and his butt when he's in the shower, Miguel Godreau shows his hairy butt as a hair covered caveman. That'll have you gripping your nub like a club! You'll be in a state of sexual delirium like a bride on the altar watching Altered States!
