Film fads change with the decades. The 1930s offered moviegoers screwball comedies. After World War II, cinematic cynicism could be seen in crime capers of the 1940s. The pendulum of popularity then swung to technicolor musicals in the 1950s. And a new wave of realism swept over most genres made in the 1960s and ’70s. Yet this rebellious trend ended in the 1980s when a bunch of teen sex comedies hit the big screen. By the 1990s, studios were churning out erotic thrillers from Under Suspicion (1991) and Basic Instinct (1992) to Disclosure (1994), Jade (1995) and Obsession (1997), with Body of Evidence (1993) and Indecent Proposal (1993) in between. Of course, we can’t forget Final Analysis (1992). Under the direction of Phil Joanou, this R rated flick begins when Diana Baylor (Uma Thurman) sees psychiatrist Isaac Barr (Richard Gere) for her obsessive compulsive disorder. He then meets her sis Heather Evans (Kim Basinger) who suffers from pathological intoxication. Meanwhile, her husband Jimmy (Eric Roberts) is under federal investigation. Needless to say, this family has problems. And we haven’t even touched on their traumatic past and fateful futures. Luckily, the present presents us with an opportunity to ogle Eric’s awesome abs when the muscular hunk takes off his shirt. If that’s not arousing enough, Mr. Gere bares his back and buns while bedding Ms. Basinger in a steamy sex scene at the movie’s 21-minute mark. Thanks to Richard (or, should we say Dick?), you can’t spell Final Analysis without the word anal!
