Laia (2016)

Laia (2016) is a drama from Catalonian director Lluis Danes that takes place in a fictional Spanish fishing village called Sinera on the northeastern coast of Spain. Laia is a woman who lives in the village and struggles as a grown woman with her unhappy childhood. She also suffers at the hands of her husband and is tormented with the love she has for her secret lover - who is also her hubby's best friend - as she dreams of a better life. Could she escape this life? Can she be with her lover? Can she do any of that without facing scorn in her small village? It's a story of quiet heartbreak and desperation (in Catalan which makes it so much sexier and more exotic), but we're here to enjoy the sexy men in this tiny village.
