Sometimes life’s heartaches can be funny — at least that’s the basis for the romantic dramedy Love Hurts (1990), not to be confused with the hit single “Love Hurts” recorded by The Everly Brothers in 1960 and re-recorded by Nazareth in 1974. Under the pen and direction of Bud Yorkin, this R rated pic centers around a self-centered womanizer named Paul Weaver (Jeff Daniels) who is living in the Big Apple. Paul used to be a baseball pro which explains why he likes to play the field. As such, his wife Nancy (Cynthia Sikes) is fed up with his foul ways so she serves him with divorce papers. With time on his hands, Paul heads home to Pennsylvania where his sister Karen (Amy Wright) is going to get married. While there, Paul visits with his mom (Cloris Leachman) and dad (John Mahoney); Harold (Jo Livingston) and Miriam Whipkey (Annabelle Weenick); and his new love interest, bridesmaid Susan Volcheck (Judith Ivey). Wait, there are a few more guests: Paul’s wife and kids arrive. What? They’ve been invited too? As you can guess, mayhem ensues. In other words, Paul’s philandering past comes back to bite him in the ass. Speaking of ass, you’ll enjoy a sexy scene wherein Jeff sheds his threads. As he changes his clothes, we get to see his bare back. If that’s not skintastic enough, the handsome hunk also shows off his nude booty. Love may hurt, but your crotch will feel good when Mr. Daniels sports his buns. Score!
