Hispanic singer, dancer, and actress Jennifer Lopez plays Hispanic singer, dancer, and Vitamix spokesperson Kat Valdez, whose chart-topping duet "Marry Me" with Latin music star and fiance Bastian (Maluma) is set to be the highlight of an upcoming concert where the two will exchange vows before a sold out crowd and upwards of 20 million social media followers. One of those on-lookers is Owen Wilson's Charlie Gilbert, a math teacher and single dad who gets roped into going to the show and holding a "Marry Me" sign by his coworker and friend (Sarah Silverman) to prove to his daughter he can be a fun dad. Moments before Kat and Bastian are supposed to say 'I do", video proof of Bastian having an affair with Kat's assistant goes viral and, seeing Charlie in the audience, the heartbroken pop idol pulls him up on stage and marries him instead rather than waste an expensive wedding dress and a captive audience. The two decide to keep things going and get to know each other under the scrutinous watch of the public eye in order to "change the narrative" of her explosive breakup. Kat and Charlie build a connection despite their extremely different lives but just as things start to get hot and heavy, Kat and Bastian's "Marry Me" is nominated for a Grammy and the exes are thrust back together. Seeing them perform and realizing he doesn't belong in Kat's world, Charlie breaks up with her, but eventually Kat makes the big, sweeping romantic gesture- complete with the typical frantic run to the airport - that proves her love and wins him over.
