Prizzi's Honor (1985)

Legend decries that thieves and other crooks function within a code of ethical behavior toward others of their lawless ilk that is stricter and more savagely enforced than any standards of practice in the straight business world. This structure of outlaw bylaws is put to the test in John Huston’s crime comedy Prizzi’s Honor (1985). Based on the same-named novel by Richard Condon, this R rated flick follows a powerful Mafia family that is as conscious of its pride as its bottom dollar. Under the leadership of Don Corrado Prizzi (William Hickey), the clan generates enough work in fortifying a reputation that they keep an entire crew of professional hitmen gainfully employed. But unforeseen conflicts of interest arise when two subcontracted assassins (played by Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner in their Golden Globe winning turns) are given the job of rubbing out each other. To further complicate matters, they happen to be secretly in love and engaged to each other! In other words, the two must decide if planning a honeymoon is more important than staying alive. The premise and execution of this plot proved to be so thrilling, the pic picked up eight Oscar nominations including a win for Best Supporting Actress Anjelica Huston. Or course, Mr. Nicholson won Mr. Man over when he doffed his duds to take a shower. The steamy scene will have you taking off your Ray-Bans and focusing in on the topless actor’s well-preserved posterior. An honorable man gives the people what they want. Thanks Jack!
