The madcap comedy It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) gets a refresh with the loose remake Rat Race (2001), not to be confused with The Rat Race (1960) starring Tony Curtis. This ensemble romp sees contestants vying for $2 million dollars offered by eccentric tycoon Donald P. Sinclair (John Cleese). Will silly siblings Duane (Seth Green) and Blaine (Vince Vieluf) win? Or can busy businesswoman Merrill Jennings (Lanei Chapman) and her long lost mother (Whoopi Goldberg) take home the loot? Sporty viewers may place their bets on gambling addict Randy Pear (Jon Lovitz) and his wife (Kathy Najimy). But there’s also the narcoleptic Enrico Pollini (Rowan Atkinson) and strait-laced lawyer Nick Schaffer (Breckin Meyer). Of course, Mr. Man’s root is rooting for fallen football referee Owen Templeton (Cuba Gooding Jr.) since he ends up wandering through the desert in his undies. As such, the topless hottie steams up the screen with his sweaty pecs. Cuba looks sexy even though he doesn’t show us the money. Under the direction of Jerry (Airplane!) Zucker, the funny flick also follows a Rainbow House nurse (Colleen Camp); a roadside squirrel seller (Kathy Bates); an elderly Lucille Ball cosplayer (Charlotte Zucker); and helicopter pilot Tracy Faucet (Amy Smart) plus her ex-boyfriend Shawn Kent (Dean Cain). We’d follow the latter actor too since the Lois & Clark (1993-1997) hunk makes a splash in swim trunks. All it takes is one glance at his amazing abs to confirm the fact that he must be a super man!
