Soundless Wind Chime (2008)

China’s openly gay filmmaker Kit Hung (also known as Wing Kit Hung and Hung Wing Kit) wrote and directed the indie flick Soundless Wind Chime (2009). This semi-autobiographical pic may give you a semi since it features flesh flashing! The romantic drama follows a lovelorn guy named Ricky (Yulai Lu) who leaves his home in Hong Kong to feel more connected to the spirit of his deceased lover Pascal (Bernhard Bulling). Despite the fact that the two were in a dysfunctional relationship, Rick still desires co-dependence. While on a soul searching trip to Switzerland, he finds a Pascal look-alike called Ueli (also played by Bulling). Or does he? As a confused Ricky wrestles with memories, he can’t tell what is an illusion and what is real regardless of input from his sister (Marie Omlin), father (Gilles Tschudi), mother (Ruth Schwegler) and auntie (Wella Zhang). Although working with a tight budget, Mr. Hung managed to get actors to shed their threads. In other words, what this movie lacks in funds, it makes up for in skin! Mr. Bulling bares his nips, balls and bum just 9 minutes in! Wait a few more minutes to see his character getting it on with an equally-undressed Marcus (Hannes Lindenblatt). If that’s not hot enough, Bernhard and Yulai steam up the screen when they appear nude in the shower. That’s when Ricky gets clean while thinking about getting dirty with his gay lover. No wonder this flick won Best International Feature at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival!
