Writer and director David Mamet takes aim not just at Hollywood but at small town politics in the comedy State and Main (2000). This scathing parody of the entertainment industry centers around a big time Hollywood production taking over a small Vermont town—after they'd been kicked out of a similarly small New Hampshire town—to make a film titled The Old Mill. The only problem is that the town's old mill burned down in the 1960s, but that's not about to stop bound and determined director Walt Price (William H. Macy) from finishing his film. However, the fact that his leading lady (Sarah Jessica Parker) refuses to shoot the film's nude scene might derail the project. Or his leading man (Alec Baldwin) and his predilection for underage women might do the trick. Either way, the entire production is in for a rude awakening when they determine that the citizens of this Vermont town aren't as dumb as they look and can't simply be bought off with the promise of featured extra roles in the film... although that certainly wouldn't hurt the cause. This star studded mile a minute comedy is full of plenty of hilarious scenes and digs at the entertainment industry as a whole, but it's sadly devoid of any nude content. There is a sexy scene where Alec Baldwin goes sans shirt for a confrontation with some locals in the hotel hallways where he's staying, showing off his bear skin rug of a chest in the process! However if it's that Baldwin beef stick you're looking for, you might have to look elsewhere!
